BTA Games: Classic Rock Bingo

Going on a long car trip? Working late on a project? Hanging around with some friends? Let's play some Classic Rock Bingo!

Requirements:
1. pencil and paper (or better yet, chalk- or whiteboard)
2. a local classic rock station (here in the Twin Cities, 92.5 KQRS)
3. three or more people who can stand to listen to classic rock radio
4. something else to do while this goes on

Rules:
Take turns selecting one band you think will be played in the course of the game. Go around until everyone has selected 4 or 5 bands. These are your bands to listen for. If they are all played before everyone else's, you win!

Wild Card: After everyone chooses their bands, each person must choose one song, by a band that hasn't been named, to be their wild card. If this song is played, you win and the game starts over.

This becomes trickier on a road trip, going in and out of radio range, but I guarantee you this: there isn't a classic-rock dead zone in the United States until you get halfway to Hawaii.

Sample:

Kevin: Bob Seger, The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top, The Doors
Bonus Track: "Lido Shuffle" by Boz Scaggs

Zander: Led Zeppelin, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Deep Purple, Cream
Bonus Track: "Aqualung" by Jethro Tull

Tim: The Who, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Steve Miller Band
Bonus Track: "Lucky Man" by Emerson, Lake, and Palmer

So, did you make this up just now or did somebody teach you this game? Either way, funny stuff.

I made it up when Kevin and Britney and I had to work all night on a huge illustration, and the Current wasn't coming in very clearly, so we figured there had to be something that would make classic rock fun to listen to.

And Tim and I played it in the car on the way back from Chicago this year, testing out my "no dead zone in the US" theory. Other than a half-hour of "House of Hair" with Dee Snider, it was solid classic rock the whole way.

Dude, I've been on some long drives in Ohio and Indiana where I couldn't get anything except country. And that makes me cry.

I would rather be hit in the head with a sledgehammer than be stuck in a room with ANY SONG that has been played on KQ---EVER. And, if I had a sledgehammer, I would bust into KQRS and cram it down big old fat face Tom Barnards throat.

But a good idea for a game, nontheless.

Bud, it's just a guess, but you might not be the best person to play this game.

Zander, while Deep Purple is a seemingly good choice on the surface... could you even identify a song by them other than "Smoke on the Water?" If you can, I pity you. "Space Trucking" doesn't count, because it would only be identifiable by its extreme length rather than anything actually memorable about the song itself. I once (and may still for all I know) owned about five Deep Purple albums, all purchased from dollar bins, and I assure you they are the third most boring band ever.

In case you were wondering:
1. Yes
2. Bread

I should also note, that while Yes is indeed the most boring band ever, they did have more members named Ian than any other band in history.

Of course, you did take Led Zeppelin, so maybe you were just being charitable.

OK, I'll stop now.

I had Deep Purple on my list when Tim and I played on the way back from Chicago, and strangely enough, it was the first of my bands to be played. The song was "Hush".
